Welcome to Kolams Galore! Here you'll find different patterns and dot kolams to use in various projects! This collection includes easy, hard, dot, colored, and all different types and difficulties of kolams. I've drawn all of the kolams myself; some of them are from kolam books, while others are my own creations. Thanks for visiting! Be sure to come back :)

Advanced #3

This kolam goes: 2-4-6-8-10-12-14-16-18-20-18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2. It's mainly straight lines.

Advanced #2

Finally another advanced one! This one is one stroke, except for the center clover.

Intermediate #15

This kolam is a combination of criss-cross lines. Put dots in 3-6-7-8-7-8-7-6-3.

Intermediate #14

This rangoli design can be done with or without color. The initial outline is a 10x10 square.

Intermediate #13

To do this kolam, I would put dots in a 7x7 grid. Then, I would start at the one of the outer corners, and follow the pattern. In fact, this kolam is one stroke.

Intermediate #12

This kolam is a uneven grid. I would count the number of dots on this kolam, because it's a bit hard to explain.

Intermediate #11

This kolam's dots are a bit complicated. I would put a grid 13x13, do the design, and then erase the unnecessary dots.

Intermediate #10

To achieve this kolam, put dots in square grid 10x10. Then, it's just straight lines and color!

Intermediate #9

This kolam is a square grid, 9x9. Just straight lines. :)

Intermediate #8

This kolam is a fun one! It is just one stroke, that winds in and out of the dots. The braid pattern spirals all the way into the center. In fact, although I have done this kolam with a 7x7 grid, you can achieve the same pattern with any square grid, whether it be 3x3 or 33x33!

Intermediate #7

This kolam is a square grid, 8x8. This kolam does not have any loops, but is rather more a line drawing.

Intermediate #6

This kolam is a square grid, 7x7. It  involves straight lines and circles.

Intermediate #5

I've decided to put the kolams black on white from now on:
To do this kolam, put dots 1-3-5-7-5-3-1. There's one big oval-like shape down the middle, as well as an hourglass-like shape. Also, there's a stroke that loops around the remaining dots.

Intermediate #4

This kolam is a square grid, 7x7. It involves straight lines and circles.

Intermediate #3

For this kolam, put these number of dots in each row: 1-3-5-7-5-3-1. The whole kolam is achieved in one stroke.

Intermediate #2

Okay! So I'm done with beginner ones for now. :) Here's an intermediate kolam. This kolam is a square grid (5x5) with additions- it has a dot above the third dot on each side. This kolam only takes 5 strokes- one for the outer ring, two for the bigger rounded rectangles, and two for the inner ellipses.

Beginner #14

This kolam is a little bigger than the previous ones. For dots (per row), put: 3-5-7-9-7-5-3. There is a big oval-like shape in the middle, and another shape horizantally in the middle. In addition, there are little shapes on the top/bottom and right/left side.

Beginner #13

This kolam is a square kolam, 5x5. It involves ellipses, rounded squares, and circles.

Beginner #12

For this kolam, the number of dots in each row go: 3-4-5-4-3. Because there is just a difference of one dot per row, each row's dots are in the middle of the previous row's.

Beginner #11

This kolam is essentially a 5x3 rectangle with an extra dot on the top and bottom, above/below the third dot from the left. This kolam is also finished in just one stroke.

Beginner #10

Put dots 1-3-5-3-1 in respective rows. If you start at the top and follow the stroke, you end up finishing the kolam. This kolam involves just one stroke.

Update

You guys may have noticed that there is only one intermediate and one advanced kolam. I've decided to post all the beginner kolams first before posting any more advanced ones. So keep your eyes out for higher level kolams! :)

Beginner #9

Square kolam, 6x6. Straight lines  and 4-way symmetry. Easy-peasy :)

Beginner #8

Square grid, 4x4. This kolam has more curved lines than loops. This kolam has a 4-way symmetry.

Beginner #7

Another square kolam, 4x4. This kolam involves two strokes. This kolam has a 2-way symmetry.

Beginner #6

this kolam is not a square, for once! To start this kolam, put 1-3-5-3-1 (each one row). Start at the top, and follow the stroke until you finish the loop. In fact, this whole kolam is one stroke.
